Xyella = Puglia, Italy

A fast-spreading bacteria is causing an olive tree apocalypse. Today, Xylella has infected at least one-third of the 60 million olive trees in Puglia, which produces 12 percent of the world's olive oil. The bacteria leaves no chance of survival. Once a plant is infected, it's doomed to die in a handful of years as it stops the tree transferring water to its branches. In an attempt to save the trees or in desperation thousands of trees are aggressively cut in the hope new shoots will grow.
